A total of 25 Tractors, 25 Harrows and 25 Ploughs were handed over to Large Scale farmers on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Namalele government facility last week.

Tractors are part of government’s plan to mechanize agriculture and also, a master plan to improve livelihoods of Ugandan farmers. The Initiative started gradually and we have seen over time that many farmers are now tending to commercial agriculture.

A few years back, farmers used to practice subsistence farming and basically for household living but today, everything is reliant on agriculture. In fact, Today most farmers look at farming as a business.

As the government increases the support to farmer, it is important to note that, farmers ought to maintain and take good care of the equipment they have been entrusted with. Similarly, as groups, they need to work hard to ensure that, they have capacity to buy even more implements such as planters, trailers, boom sprayers, harvesters for their projects.

When everybody is involved in the practice, as a country, we cannot lack and that means, we shall have Zero death as a result of Hunger Problems.

Frank Tumwebaze said, “We are supporting large scale commercial farmers and organised groups with tractors to open up more land. And some people need to appreciate that small holder farmers on their own cannot do sustainable farming without the support from Large Scale Commercial farmers.”

Dr. Mugasi also added on to say, that Large scale farmers have the land but the challenge has always been the support to cultivate it.
